A 29-year old Murrieta man died in a fatal Riverside County car accident on northbound Interstate 15 (I-15) near the Temecula Parkway. The accident happened on March 20, 2010 at around 4:30 a.m. The car crash happened primarily due to a disabled vehicle without headlights.
The victim, Miguel Vega, when his car hit the guard rail on the stretch of the downhill freeway, spun out, and stopped across two traffic lanes with no headlights. The driver of an oncoming car did not see Vega’s car in the predawn darkness until it was too late to avoid the crash and struck it on the side. The car spun around and was then hit by a second car. Vega was pronounced dead at the scene.
Our office wishes to offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Vega. This accident is tragic. One wonders why Vega lost control of the vehicle in the first place and that thought will most likely haunt his friends and family. It would be reasonable to believe that, given the time the accident occurred, that Vega had fallen asleep at the wheel prior to striking the guardrail. However, nobody will ever truly know.
Regardless of the cause of the auto accident, it is a good reminder to the public to always stay alert and well-rested while driving. If you feel tired or like you are about to fall asleep, please pull over and take a quick 30 minute nap or drink some coffee and wait about 30 minutes before driving your car again.
