San Diego Pedestrian Accident Kills Woman
56-year-old Joan Milazzo was struck and killed in San Diego pedestrian accident that occurred on August 27, 2011, around 9:50 a.m. n the 14900 block of Camino Del Sur near San Dieguito Road. According to San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, the pedestrian was crossing the street when she was struck by a Nissan Sentra driven by a 24-year-old man.
The bystanders told police that the motorist was driving the car at a high rate of speed. The motorist lost control of the vehicle and veered into Milazzo as she stepped onto the curb. Milazzo suffered fatal injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment where she was pronounced dead around 10:57 a.m.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased pedestrian. From the facts set forth in the news story, it appears that the Sentra driver was at fault for speeding the vehicle and causing this fatal crash. Under California Vehicle Code Section 21950(a), “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection….”
