Pedestrian Killed While Crossing Freeway In Riverside County
Nibia Celaya Nunez, a 70-year-old Indio woman, was struck and killed in a La Quinta pedestrian accident that occurred on May 17, 2011, around 2:36 p.m. on Dune Palms Road. According to the Riverside County officials, Nunez was crossing across Highway 111 outside of any crosswalks when she was hit by a pickup truck. She was taken to JFK Memorial Hospital where she died about an hour later.
The news offers limited information and therefore it is unclear as to what lead to this fatal accident. It is possible that high speed, running the red light and right-of-way violation lead to this fatal accident. California law holds that drivers must give the right of way to pedestrians in marked crosswalks and at an intersection. An investigation will likely shed more light on what lead to this fatal crash.
Meanwhile, Nunez’s family members are advised to immediately seek counsel from an experienced Riverside County pedestrian accident lawyer to obtain a fair compensation to cover for funeral and burial costs, loss of anticipated earnings, loss of love and companionship and other accident related expenses. A pedestrian accident attorney will explore all the possibilities of this accident and would ensure that the at-fault party is held liable for Nunez‘s wrongful death.
Our law office offers sincere condolences to all those who knew and loved Nunez.
