Carrie McKinney, a 22-year old San Diego mother lost custody of her 7-month old baby boy and possibly will face criminal charges for neglect. Carrie left her baby boy strapped in a carrier on the floor at her friend’s place in Riverside County with two dogs. The dogs, a 5-year old pit bull and an 8-month old pit bull mix both females, bit the boy in the groin area and ripped apart the baby’s testicles. The baby has been admitted at Loma Linda University Medical Center for medical and surgical care and is with Child Protective Services. The owner of the pit bulls has agreed to euthanize the dogs.

Our office wishes the baby a quick recovery and a healthy life ahead. It is never advisable to leave babies unattended and the risk increases dramatically when there are dogs, especially dangerous dogs like pit bulls, or other animals around. Parents must be very careful when leaving their babies unattended, which can lead to serious and fatal injuries to their loved ones.

An El Cajon jury reached a verdict regarding a Nov. 21, 2009 car crash that killed 35-year old Cydil Deann Kohlmeyer. The guilty driver was sentenced for 15 years on the charges of misdemeanor hit-and-run and gross vehicular manslaughter for driving while intoxicated.

The guilty, 53-year-old Deborah Felix, had fatally injured Kohlmeyer, a mother of three, while driving drunk along Pepper Drive in El Cajon. Felix had also managed to strike mailboxes and a pickup after hitting the victim. Felix will be sentenced on May 11 by El Cajon Judge Lantz Lewis. Jurors also found Felix guilty of a sentence-enhancing allegation that she had fled the scene of the accident after committing the crime. According to Felix, she wanted to urinate and had gone farther away from the scene to relieve herself. What a silly and inexcusable reason to leave the scene of the accident!

Our office is in agreement with the verdict and hope that Felix serves all of her time for taking the life of Ms. Kohlmeyer. People driving under influence should be punished harshly. We hope that other drivers learn from this, and restrain themselves from drinking and driving. If a drunk driver is unfortunate enough to cause an accident, please be responsible enough to stay at the scene and try to assist the injured until help arrives.

A 28-year old Hollywood stuntwoman lost her life in a fatal Los Angeles motorcycle accident that happened on April 6, 2010 on the Ventura Freeway in Studio City.

The deceased, April E. Stirton of North Hollywood, was on the 101 Freeway going over 55 miles per hour when she lost balance of her Yamaha Roadstar and fell down. The Roadster jammed under a big rig and she was hit by the rear wheels of a tow truck. According to California Highway Patrol, Stirton was drug for nearly 10 miles before the truck driver realized what had happened. Stirton has worked on shows like CSI and True Blood.

Our office offers our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the friends and family of Stirton. It is sad to have lost such a remarkable stuntwoman while doing something what she is good at. It is even more horrible that her body was drug for nearly 10 miles before the truck pulled over. Didn’t the truck driver feel the impact? Didn’t he sense that his truck was not driving properly? How did he not notice?
