Benefit Concert Held for Southern California Car Accident Victim

A concert was held on August 29, 2009,to honor and benefit a young girl who was struck by a car while on vacation and remains in critical condition even today. Rebecca Martin, 11, has been hospitalized in Southern California since August 13, when she was struck by a car while crossing the street near her grandmother's house.

She had even been inside of the crosswalk, but the car going 30 mph hit her regardless, throwing her 15-20 feet in the air before she landed on the hood of the vehicle. She had to be transported to the University of Southern California Medical Center, where she still lays in stable condition, although with a fractured pelvis, bruised lungs, and brain injury. She is still unresponsive and in a coma, and sister Victoria regularly updates her feelings on the situation via CaringBridge.org.

The benefit concert entitled ''Becca Shines'', is scheduled for Saturday at 7p.m. at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School, 701 Long Valley Road in Garderville, Nevada.
