Fatal San Diego Pedestrian Accident Takes Life of Man, Dog

A fatal San Diego pedestrian accident occurred over the weekend when a man and his dog were killed by a car while they were crossing the street, according to San Diego police. The victim was soon identified by the County Medical Examiner's Office as 79-year-old Billy Don Viele.

Viele had been crossing Rancho Bernardo Road close to Via Del Campo in the Rancho Bernardo area of San Diego just before 10 a.m. on August 1, 2009, with two of his dogs when they were hit by a Ford Mustang. Witnesses to the accident called 911, and medics arrived on the scene worked to resuscitate Viele, but were unsuccessful. Viele was married and lived in San Diego. One of the dogs survived.
