California Automobile Insurance--The One Coverage You Absolutely Need.

There are hundreds of automobile injury accidents in San Diego each month where victims don't have a prayer of being fully compensated for their injuries. That is, unless they have the ONE coverage that they absolutely need.

That coverage is....uninsured motorist coverage.

California law has required motorists to cover automobile liability insurance for years. But this has not stopped the number of uninsured motorists in California to reach epidemic proportions. Some estimate that 23 percent of motorists in Los Angeles are uninsured and 15 percent of injury accidents in California involve uninsured motorists. This has led some legislators to look for a legislative solution.

The problem in San Diego is even more pronounced with a large number of motorists being not only uninsured, but unlicensed. We at the Jurewitz Law Group have seen far too many accidents caused by uninsured and/or unlicensed drivers. We only pray that the injured victims took the right precautions to protect themselves from uninsured motorists.

How do you protect yourself from an uninsured motorist? Drive carefully, buckle up, and buy as much uninsured motorist coverage as possible.

Uninsured Motorist/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) coverage is one of the cheapest coverages that you can buy. However, you cannot purchase a higher UM/UIM insurance limit than the limit in place for bodily injury (BI) coverage. Therefore, if you have a $15K/$30K BI policy (the minimum limit under California law), you are limited to the same limits for UM/UIM coverage.

So, take the opportunity to increase your BI limits to $100K/$300K, at a minimum, and make sure that your UM/UIM limits are set to the same limit.
